The Stupids - Peruvian Vacation

The Stupids, from Ipswich, England, formed in 1984 and played some blazingly fast US-influenced (particularly Boston style à la Gang Green) hardcore punk/thrash in a time and place that was mostly filled with crusty metal punk, UK82, and anarcho punk. The Stupids took US hardcore to a new level, making it faster and more intense.
PERUVIAN VACATION is the most underrated LP of all time in my opinion. It is every bit as good as Gang Green's Sold Out 7". The guitar riffs and song structures are completely over the top and the vocals, while still clean, are great with a more shouted or yelled feel on this release than their 7". Simple breakdowns and great buildups add a lot of power to this LP too. No metal influence on this record either which is always a plus. With awesome production, it comes close to being the perfect record. Lyrics are still pretty stupid in a humorous way. Fourteen cuts of some of the most intense rippers I've ever heard in my entire life. If you're into other UK thrashers like A.O.A., Heresy, or Ripcord or early Boston/US hardcore, you'll probably love these guys.--KFTH

M.I.A. - Lost Boys

Classic early hardcore punk from Las Vegas' best! 37 tracks in all - includes Murder In A Foreign Place & Last Rites releases.
Around 1983 M.I.A. relocated to Orange County and held their own with all the classic bands of the day, onstage and in the studio.Up north Maximum Rock'n'Roll had adopted them too, bending their own rules to make M.I.A. the only non-Bay Area band on the landmark Not So Quiet On The Western Front compilation. A normally reserved Jello Biafra offered them this labels services as soon as they walked off stage when he saw them in Las Vegas. The Murder In A Foreign Place ep was the result. It's all here; their side of the Last Rites album (originally split with another band they didn't even know would be on the record). The LP and CD contain 80 minutes of soaring melodic punk and hardcore with plenty of power and variety. One of the all-time greats at the peak of their powers. Also includes : early demos, lost live tracks and some excellent studio demos that pre-dated their later work.

The Forgotten Rebels - Burn The Flag

Derivative but entertaining, Ontario's Forgotten Rebels delivered trashy glam-punk with the snottiness of the Sex Pistols, the dopey humor of the Ramones, and the big hooks of Gary Glitter and T. Rex. The group got its start with a 1978 demo entitled Burning the Flag, which was followed with an independent EP, Tomorrow Belongs to Us (both were later collected on a 1997 reissue titled after the latter). The original lineup featured vocalist Mickey DeSadist (b. Mickey Gerlecki), guitarist Tony Madelina, drummer Angela Madelina, and bassist Carl "Chris Suicide" Johnson, and like most of the Forgotten Rebels' lineups, it was short-lived, as new drummer Pete "Treason" Latimer joined in between recordings and left just as quickly.
For the band's 1980 debut album, In Love With the System , a new lineup coalesced around DeSadist: guitarist Alan "Al McCombo" Smolak, bassist Chris "Pogo Au Go Go" Houston, and drummer Larry Electrician. In Love sported a harder-edged punk sound than either previous or subsequent records; following its release, Houston left to form a backing band called the Sex Machine, with whom he recorded an album in 1986. For that matter, the remainder of the band left as well, leaving DeSadist to recruit an all-new lineup of Mike "Taster" Mirabella (guitar), John Welton (bass), and Robert Allan (drums). This unit recorded the glammed-up This Ain't Hollywood... (1983), which featured covers of "Save the Last Dance for Me," "Eve of Destruction," and Gary Glitter's "Hello Hello (I'm Back Again)," plus one of the group's signature songs, "Surfin' on Heroin." 1985's The Pride and the Disgrace found DeSadist and Mirabella matched with a new rhythm section of bassist Mike "Spike" Lumen and drummer Dave McGhire. 1988's Surfin' on Heroin was mostly a collection of newly recorded versions of previously released songs, with Mike Szykowny temporarily replacing Lumen. Lumen was back in the fold for 1989's Forgotten Rebels (also known as Untitled ), which also featured McGhire, new guitarist Jeffrey Dee Campbell, and an inexplicable new spelling for DeSadest's last name.
A long hiatus ensued, but the Rebels regrouped in 1994 with a surprisingly similar lineup -- DeSadest, Campbell, McGhire, and bassist Chaz Butcher -- and a new LP, Criminal Zero . In addition to the Tomorrow Belongs to Us compilation, 1997 also saw the release of Executive Outcomes , which welded early demos onto a 1990 live perfomance. Butcher soon left the group in favor of Steve Mahon.

The Vandals are an American punk rock band formed in 1980 in Huntington Beach, California and currently recording for Kung Fu Records. They have released ten full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured the world extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour. They are well-known for their use of humor, preferring to use their music as a vehicle for entertainment and sarcasm rather than as a platform for more "serious" issues.

Quite possibly the first hardcore record and fastest record made before 1980, Fullerton’s Middle Class broke the ground for the LA hardcore scene. This EP is way ahead of its time, take a listen for yourself to see why this is such classic.
Middle Class from Santa Ana, California, were one of the first "hardcore" bands in history. Debate continues to this day as to whether Middle Class were the first hardcore band or if Black Flag or the Bad Brains were. (It is unlikely that the Bad Brains were aware of the Middle Class, however, as they were unknown outside of California.)
Their sound evolved from being a blistering, shouted, arty version of punk which would be extremely influential to the hardcore sound that would emerge in the years following their first release, the 1978 "Out Of Vogue" 7 inch. This record featured the title track along with three other songs.

In the early years of Los Angeles punk, one of the premiere hardcore bands was T.S.O.L., which stood for the True Sounds of Liberty. Offering poppier music than many of their contemporaries and featuring an image that appealed to punks who wanted to dive deeper into the gothic subgenre already being offered by many British punk bands, T.S.O.L. became hugely popular in the local scene but never translated that success to national exposure because of their ever shifting lineup and sound.
Formed in 1978 by four pasty faced youths with a passion for the emerging hardcore scene, T.S.O.L. was originally based in Huntington Beach, California. Featuring the lineup of vocalist Jack Grisham, guitarist Ron Emory, bassist Mike Roche, and drummer Todd Barnes, the band burst into the local club scene with an image that included white face paint and dark, energetic anthems about alienation and other troubled youth topics. A few members had already tried their luck with a band called Vicious Circle, so gigs in the South Bay and Orange County were easy to get despite many of those shows ending with riots that would ban them from the very same clubs. A politically fueled eponymous EP would be the band's first official release, and it's emotional sound and vicious attitude were enough to ensure their standing as a major force in the scene.

Later, the band split into two groups, both calling themselves "Life Sentence." The split was hardly friendly (see the lyrics to "Win, Lose, or Sue"), and one side actually sued the other. Brockman, the winner of the lawsuit, recruited Jeff Hauck on bass and Gustav Chumpske Roman on drums for the No Experience Necessary album, released in 1989.
This is a somewhat unusual record for its time. In 1989, hardcore bands (at least in the United States) were either experimenting with other musical styles, or were "Youth Crew." Life Sentence, however, put out "No Experience Necessary," which is straightforward hardcore punk. Slick production and brief metal guitar licks aside, the music is directly from early eighties California.

Life Sentence was a hardcore band from Chicago, Illinois. The band got its start in 1984, with the lineup of Joe Losurdo (bass), Eric Brockman (guitar), Tom O'Connor (drums), and Ray Morris (vocals, previously in Six Feet Under). Midway through recording their debut record, the rest of the band dumped their singer and continued as a three-piece. The record, a self-titled 12", was finished in 1987, and released on Chicago label Walkthrufyre.

Deadline was one of the signature bands of the early DC Hardcore scene. The band formed in the summer of 1981 and quickly recorded a demo, three tracks of which were culled for use on the Dischord, FLEX YOUR HEAD, sampler.
After playing a number of memorable shows through the following year with such DC fellow travellers as Faith, Scream and Void, as well as opening for Flipper at the old 9:30 club, the band recorded one more session at Inner Ear in August of 1982. Almost immediately after the recording, Deadline disbanded and that eleven song tape languished unreleased for seven years, becoming one of the great lost gems of the golden age of DC punk.
In 1989 the final Deadline session finally saw the light of day, released by the Peterbilt label as the one-sided 12" called 8/2/82 but it quickly sold out its 1000 print pressing and once again the songs were unavailable.

The Vandals - Live on KPFK radio

The Vandals are an American punk rock band formed in 1980 in Huntington Beach, California and currently recording for Kung Fu Records. They have released ten full-length studio albums and two live albums and have toured the world extensively, including performances on the Vans Warped Tour. They are well-known for their use of humor, preferring to use their music as a vehicle for entertainment and sarcasm rather than as a platform for more "serious" issues.

Middle Class - Out of Vogue

T.S.O.L - EP

Life Sentence - No Experience Necessary

Life Sentence - Self Titled (EP)

Life Sentence was a hardcore band from Chicago, Illinois. The band got its start in 1984, with the lineup of Joe Losurdo (bass), Eric Brockman (guitar), Tom O'Connor (drums), and Ray Morris (vocals, previously in Six Feet Under). Midway through recording their debut record, the rest of the band dumped their singer and continued as a three-piece. The record, a self-titled 12", was finished in 1987, and released on Chicago label Walkthrufyre.

Deadline - EP
